Why is it important to pay regular attention to your Mobile Fundraising Program? Just like anything else, you have to exercise your marketing muscles to keep them in shape. What does that mean you say? By always being in marketing mode, you will think of 10 more ways we haven't even thought of to incorporate and monetize any and all of your campaigns.
Let's take for example the always costly yet effecting branding tool of T-Shirts. You are having a fundraiser, teammates are signing up & going around to ask for donations. You want your team members each to donate $15 to get their T-Shirts that are printed with your logo so that donors recognize them as legitimate. Simply adding i.e. "TEXT [your NPO keyword here] to [shortcode #] to donate $10 to our cause" to the back of those T-Shirts you have now raised the bar from a simple branding tool to a call to action campaign. Anyone that see's the campaign may ask or even donate without discussion by Texting into your Mobile Fundraising program.
An average dialogue between fundraisers and donors without Mobile Fundraising goes something like this:
Fundraiser: "Will you sponsor my walk at 10 cents a mile?"
Donor replies: "Well I would, but I don't have any cash on me right now. Stop back later" (and good luck finding them again when you come back.)
If your program had implemented Mobile Fundraising you could turn around that "no" or "delay of game":
Fundraiser: "Will you sponsor my walk at 10 cents a mile"
Donor replies: "Well I would, but I don't have any cash on me right now. Stop back later"
Fundraiser: "Well you are welcome to make a donation on our behalf by your mobile phone. It will bill $10 extra as a separate tax deductible item on your cell phone bill at the end of the month. (Turn around and flash the back of the T-Shirt) Just TEXT AID TO 55000 and Reply 'Yes' to confirm the donation" (or whatever is your keyword and shortcode).
In this scenario, the Non Profit will still gain a donation rather than just another no. Depending upon your program, you can even set it up to donate specifically on behalf of a fundraiser/walker/etc. and they can add to their personal tally.
As you can see, keeping your mind open to the million places you could mention or write one simple phrase "Text [keyword] to [shortcode]", you can pick up additional donations from new and untapped markets and for line items that in the past you expensed, now become a monetized campaign.
